Here’s a simple recipe to make a special cup of Masala Chai. Make your evening special any day with this cuppa full of goodness.
Ingredients
- 1/ 2 tablespoons black tea (or 1–2 tea bags)
- 1/ 2 cup Purabi milk
- 3–5 cardamon pods
- 2 whole cloves
- 1 star anise (optional)
- 4–5 peppercorns (optional)
- 1 cup water
- 2–3 slices ginger (skins ok)
- ½ cinnamon stick, split lengthwise (use your fingers to separate)
- 2–3 teaspoons (or more or less) maple syrup, honey, sugar or alternative
Instructions
- Lightly crush cardamon, cloves, star anise and peppercorns and place in a small pot with 1 cup of water. Add ginger (crushed a bit), cinnamon and black tea.
- Bring to a boil. Turn off heat and let seep 10 minutes.
- Add milk. Bring to a simmer once more, turn off heat.
- Sweeten, taste, strain into a glass.
You can follow this recipe for a fresh and strong flavor of chai. Or make your own homemade masala chai powder and store it in a dry container which has a long shelf life. People who like to make masala chai more often can opt for this option.
What will you need:
- Tea leaves 4 teaspoons
- Black peppercorns 16
- Cinnamon 1 inch stick
- Cloves 4
- Green cardamoms 4
- Dry ginger 1 teaspoon
- Milk 2 cups
- Sugar 4 teaspoons (as per taste)
Instructions
Step 1
Dry grind all the masala ingredients to a fine powder. Let it cool completely then sieve.
Step 2
Store in an airtight container. Use the masala as and when required to make tea.
Step 3
To make tea, mix two cups of milk and two cups of water and bring to a boil. Add tea leaves and chai masala.
Step 4
Let it boil for a minute, add sugar. When it comes to a boil, lower heat and let it simmer for two minutes.
Step 5
Strain and serve tea piping hot with your choice of snacks.
